Semarang

INTRODUCTION

The heart of Central Java, Semarang, has a multicultural history and is one of the largest metropolitan cities in Indonesia. This city is also known as Kota Lumpia or Lumpia City. Lumpia is one of the most delicious snacks you could ever find in Indonesia. It’s a snack born by acculturation of two cultures, Javanese and Chinese, and a typical food from Semarang.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: JAKARTA – SEMARANG (L)

We will meet at Gambir Station in Jakarta for our train to Semarang. The journey will take about 5 hours, and lunch will be served on the train. All participants must arrive in Semarang no later than noon.

Our first stop will be Gg. Lombok to try the unique spring rolls that Semarang is famous for. After that, we’ll visit the Tay Kak Sie Temple. If we have time, we’ll also swing by Javara for an afternoon tea break before exploring the old town of Semarang on a rickshaw. Dinner will be at a local restaurant.

DAY 2: SEMARANG (B,L)

After breakfast, we will continue to explore Semarang. Our first stop will be the Sam Poo Kong temple, named after Admiral Zheng He, also known as Cheng Ho or Sam Poo Kong. He was a renowned Chinese Muslim explorer and mariner from the Ming Dynasty. The temple serves as a center for religious and cultural activities, welcoming people of different  faiths such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. It also holds significance for the local Muslim community due to Zheng He’s Islamic background.

Afterwards, we will head to a local restaurant that the team has carefully vetted for lunch. Following that, we will visit the Batik workshop to have a hands-on experience in making our own Batik. Lastly, we’ll stop at the local souvenir shop to get some local goodies to bring back home for yourself or your loved ones. Lastly, enjoy the evening skyline of Semarang City while having dinner.

DAY 3: SEMARANG – JAKARTA (B,L)

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel in the morning. At around 10 am, get ready to check out. We will visit Pagoda Avalokitesvara before heading to a local restaurant for a late lunch. Enjoy the local cuisine with your travel companions before we finally drop you off at the train station. The program ends here.
