Baliem Valley Festival

INTRODUCTION

Baliem Valley Festival is an annual cultural event where all the tribes from the highlands of Wamena and the Baliem Valley such as Dani, Lani and Yali gather together to celebrate the Baliem Valley Festival.

We could see all about 40 plus tribes come to perform the local cultures such as traditional dances, musical equipment performances, pig races and also mock wars between districts which will be held for two days performed by around 30-50 warriors.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: JAYAPURA – WAMENA

All participants are expected to arrive in Jayapura to catch the flight to Wamena at 11.40 or 14.20 (one-hour flight). Upon arrival in Wamena, check in to hotel, rest and freshen up, then enjoy the afternoon at Wamena Hill.

DAY 2: WAMENA (B,L,D)

After breakfast, we will visit Obia Traditional Village where we can watch the traditional activities, such as traditional dance, set up fire without matches, burning stone, and many more. After that, we will head to the Baliem Valley Festival venue.

DAY 3: WAMENA (B,L,D)

After breakfast, get ready to enjoy performances and attractions at Baliem Valley Festival full day.

DAY 4: WAMENA (B,L,D)

Today we will visit Suroba Traditional Village and also witness the more than 350 years old mummy of Dani Tribe in Jiwika. Not to miss the local traditional market! After that, we will head to Baliem Valley Festival venue to attend the closing of the event.

DAY 5: WAMENA – JAYAPURA (B)

After early breakfast, get ready to check out. Drop off at Wamena Airport for our flight back to Jayapura at 06.00.
