Unlike most Indonesian cities, Singkawang has a predominantly Chinese-Indonesian population (primarily of Hakka descent), harmoniously integrated with the native Dayak and Malay communities. This rich cultural melting pot has earned it two famous nicknames: “The City of a Thousand Temples” and “The Most Tolerant City in Indonesia.”

Located on the western coast of Borneo in the West Kalimantan province, Singkawang is one of Indonesia’s most culturally distinct cities. Its name is derived from the Hakka Chinese phrase San-Khew-Jong, which beautifully describes its geography: “the town between the hills, the sea, and the estuary.”

    JAKARTA – SINGKAWANG

    Your adventure begins as we whisk you away from Jakarta to the tranquil streets of Singkawang. Before checking into your hotel, we’ll stop for a warm welcome: Choipan, a delicate local speciality served fresh and steaming. After settling into Swiss-Belinn Singkawang, take your time to stretch your legs or enjoy a quiet afternoon nap.

    As evening falls, we’ll gather for an authentic local dinner. If you’re feeling adventurous, we can hop on a colorful Odong-odong (traditional open-air cart) for a breezy tour of Chinatown. Prefer a quieter end to the day? Simply tuck into a legendary Kopitiam for a slow sip of local coffee or tea.

    SINGKAWANG (B)

    Cultural Immersion & Nature’s Breath Wake up to a peaceful breakfast before we head out at 09:00 AM. Today is all about the soul of Singkawang. We’ll explore grand, historic temples that tell the story of a city built on harmony and cultural fusion.

    In between, we’ll take a gentle stroll through lush parks and natural spots—handpicked for their easy, accessible paths. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without a culinary quest. We’ll make several stops at iconic food spots, tasting the very best of Singkawang’s legendary street food right where it all began.

    SINGKAWANG – JAKARTA (B)

    Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel before we say goodbye to the city. We’ll spend our last morning visiting hidden corners of the town you might have missed. For the grand finale, we’ll taste Bubur Gunting—a sweet, comforting bowl that symbolizes the legendary hospitality of the locals.

    Before we head to the airport, we’ll stop by a local souvenir center so you can bring a piece of “Singkawang’s Taste” home to your loved ones. You’ll head back to Jakarta not just with photos, but with a refreshed spirit and memories of a city that feels like home.
