Raja Ampat

INTRODUCTION

Raja Ampat in West Papua is one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. There are spectacular snorkeling and diving spots and a place for the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. Situated off the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula on Papua, the most eastern Island of the Indonesian Archipelago, Raja Ampat or meaning ‘The Four Kings’ is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays, and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool.

Raja Ampat offers some of the world’s ultimate experiences for underwater enthusiasts. The territory within the islands of the Four Kings is enormous, covering 9.8 million acres of land and sea, home to 540 types of corals, more than 1,000 types of coral fish, and 700 types of mollusks. This makes it the most diverse living library for the world’s coral reef and underwater biota.

While its underwater splendors are beyond exceptional, the landscape above the surface is equally breathtaking. Piaynemo offers some of the most spectacular sceneries on the face of the earth. Further, at Wayag Island, the icon of Raja Ampat, you will also find an amazing rock islets formation on an even bigger scale. With all its spectacular wonders inland, on the shore, and beyond the waters, and its distinct serene ambience that you rarely find anywhere else on Earth,

Raja Ampat truly offers the ultimate experience one can only dream of. So, whether you are an avid diver, an occasional snorkeler, or someone who appreciates beauty in every sense, Raja Ampat welcomes you to Heaven on Earth.

Then we will continue our journey to our homestay, only about 20 minutes away from Serpele. Check-in, lunch, and rest. We will stay at this homestay for two nights. At around 3.30 pm, we will head out to explore the island. Dinner at 7 pm. Free program afterward.

DAY 2: SERPELE – WAYAG (B,L,D)

After breakfast, at 8 pm, we will head off to Wayag Islands. There are two viewing points that we are planning to go for. The journey to the first viewing point will take about an hour, and the second is about 10 minutes away.

From the last viewing point, before returning to our homestay, we will stop by the shark point, where we can see many sharks swimming near the shore. We can swim and snorkel here.

Back to the homestay. Dinner, rest and enjoy our last night at the homestay.

DAY 3: PIAYNEMO – RUFAS ISLAND – FAM WALL – ARBOREK – PASIR TIMBUL – MANTA POINT (B,L,D)

Breakfast at 6 am, and get ready to check out. Today we will head to Piaynemo, it is about 2 hour journey, and also to explore the surrounding area. Stop over at Rufas Island for lunch and then snorkeling. Fam Wall and Arborek will be the next snorkeling spots. At the Arborek Village, we can meet the locals and see their daily life. Before returning to our accommodation, we will check out the Manta Point to see if we are lucky to see and swim with the Manta Ray.

After that, check in to our accommodation at Waigeo. Dinner at 7 pm.

DAY 4: SAUWANDAREK/YENBUBA VILLAGE – PASIR TIMBUL – MIOSKON  (B,L,D)

Today is a full snorkelling day! We can usually expect good visibility when snorkelling at Sauwandarek or Yenbuba. Fish are abundant here. From there, we will stop at Pasir Timbul, a long sand bar in the middle of nowhere. End the day at Friwen Beach or Mioskon for the white sandy beach before returning to our accommodation.

DAY 5: KALIBIRU – BIRDWATCHING (B,L,D)

Today, we will start at 8 am. We will take a car ride to Kalibiru (Blue River). About an hour later, we will reach the Kalibiru starting point. Then, we will take a traditional long boat to reach the next stop, where we can only continue on foot to get to the Kalibiru. Along the way, we can hear the birds chirping everywhere. The trail will involve crossing streams. So, expect your footwear to get wet. Less than 15 minutes walk, we shall reach the blue color river in the middle of the jungle.

Back from Kalibiru, we will have our lunch before going to our next destination for birdwatching. The type of bird of paradise that we will try to watch is the Red Paradise. Although the endemic birds of Papua are endangered, it is still possible to see them in the wild with the help of the local guide.

To get to their favorite spot, we must trek for about 30 minutes through the jungle. The trail goes up and downhill. At the end of the birdwatching, we can continue to see the panoramic view of Raja Ampat from Waigeo’s side. Back to the resort, dinner at 7 pm.

DAY 6: BATANTA (B,L,D)

Early morning call at 05.30 am for breakfast. Today we will check out, leave Waigeo, and head to Batanta. We will stay one night on Batanta Island and explore the Batanta Waterfall. From our resort to Batanta takes about an hour to reach.

Start the trek to the waterfall from the mangrove line. There are two waterfalls. The one we are going for will take about 45 minutes of trekking in the jungle. Expect water trails along the way.

After that, we will check out the sites around Batanta Island to see whether we have the luck to spot the marine animal, Dugong. There are areas with sea grasses where the Dugong loves to feed around Batanta Island. Check in to our homestay on Batanta Island.

DAY 7: BATANTA – SORONG – MISOOL (B,L,D)

Early breakfast and check out from our homestay in Batanta, heading back to Sorong for our refueling before further exploration to the south of Raja Ampat, Misool.

The scenery in Misool is quite different from what we see in Waigeo and Batanta. Over here, there are caves, and although the underwater life here may not be as rich as in the northern part of Raja Ampat, it is still breathtaking!
