Flores Island

INTRODUCTION

Flores Island, nestled within the East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia, is renowned for its rugged terrain, lush forests, and picturesque coastline, Flores offers a diverse range of attractions for travellers seeking adventure and tranquillity alike. The island is perhaps most famous for the mesmerizing Kelimutu volcano, known for its tri-coloured crater lakes that change colour periodically, creating a spectacle unlike any other. Beyond Kelimutu, Flores boasts stunning beaches, vibrant coral reefs perfect for snorkelling and diving, and traditional villages where visitors can immerse themselves in the rich culture and heritage of the local communities.

Komodo National Park

INTRODUCTION

Established in 1980, Komodo National Park was created to conserve the habitat of the native Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis), along with its unique biodiversity, encompassing both marine and terrestrial areas. The park was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: ENDE – MONI

Pick up from the airport, and continue the journey to Moni, the nearest village to Kelimutu National Park. Check-in to our accommodation, rest, and free programme until dinner time.

DAY 2: KELIMUTU – NANGA PENDA BEACH – RIUNG (B,L,D)

We will have a 4 am wake-up call to catch the sunrise on top of Mt. Kelimutu. The trail to the sunrise viewing point takes about 30-40 minutes to reach on well-paved steps. We’ll enjoy the moment as we watch the sunrise rise up above the craters. Afterward, we will head back to our accommodation for breakfast and get ready to check out.

Our next destination is Riung 17 Islands Marine Park. The journey to Riung is rather long. We will have our lunch at the beach where we can see the blue-ish pebbles on the beach. Check in to our accommodation at Riung and have some time for rest and a free programme. Later, we will gather again for dinner. We will stay here for two nights.

DAY 3: RIUNG 17 ISLANDS MARINE PARK (B,L,D)

After breakfast, we will be exploring the Riung 17 Islands Marine Park. Despite being called the “17 Islands,” it actually consists of more than 20 islands. We will have the opportunity to appreciate the tranquil and unspoiled natural beauty, encounter exotic fish species, and unwind in the peaceful and picturesque surroundings.

Riung 17 Islands is a hidden gem, ideal for those who are looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in a tropical paradise. Our day will mostly consist of snorkeling and island hopping, followed by lunch at the beach. We will return to our accommodation before sunset to rest and then gather for dinner later.

DAY 4: RIUNG – RUTENG (B,L)

From Riung, we will head to Ruteng and stay overnight. Along the way to Bajawa, we will stop at Cancar Village where we can see the spider web-like paddy field. The spider web layout, known locally as “Lingko,” was an ancient tradition.

The fields were divided into segments, each belonging to different families. The centre of the web, called the “lodok,” was the communal area, symbolizing unity and cooperation among the villagers. This breathtaking agricultural marvel not only provides sustenance to the local community but also weaves a tapestry of stories and traditions passed down through generations.

DAY 5: RUTENG – DINTOR – WAE REBO (B,L,D)

Check out in the morning, and get ready to trek to Wae Rebo Village – declared by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in August 2012. Wae Rebo Village is located about 1200 m asl so expect the temperature to be much lower in the village at night. The hike through the forestry trail takes about 3 hours before we finally reach the entrance to the village.

The tradition here is visitors must ring the bell before entering the village. Welcome by the chief village. Settle down at one of the huts prepared for visitors. Enjoy the communal dinner and the night sky with thousand stars and the huts on the background.

DAY 6: WAEREBO – LABUAN BAJO (B,L)

Enjoy the communal breakfast prepared by the villagers. Have a walk around the village – see the activities in the village and their way of life. Around 9 am, we start heading back down to the starting point and continue our journey back to Labuan Bajo.

DAY 7: LABUAN BAJO – KOMODO ISLANDS (B,L,D)

After breakfast, the latest by 10 am, we shall start moving to the port. Check-in to our private boat exploring Komodo Islands for the next three days. The final route will be determined based on the weather of the day. However, here are few places that we will usually cover throughout the three days two nights in Komodo National Park: Komodo Island, Padar Island, Long Beach, Manta Point, Taka Makasar, Sebayur Island, and Kalong Island.

DAY 8: KOMODO ISLANDS (B,L,D)

During our three-day, two-night stay in the national park, we will have the opportunity to spot the Komodo Dragon and explore the stunning underwater world of the park. Located at the heart of the Asia-Pacific Coral Triangle, Komodo National Park showcases one of the world’s most diverse marine environments, with around 100 remarkable diving sites.

DAY 9: KOMODO ISLANDS – LABUAN BAJO (B)

Breakfast on your own time. Depending on your flight out from Labuan Bajo, we will drop you off at the airport or hotel for your onward trip.
